What are dentures?

Dentures are removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth and the surrounding gum tissue, restoring your ability to chew, speak clearly, and smile with confidence. Modern dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth precisely and are designed to look far more natural than dentures from even a decade ago, with realistic-looking gum tissue and teeth shaped to suit your face. Dentures remain one of the most accessible tooth-replacement options, especially for patients replacing a full arch of teeth.

Types of dentures explained

Full (complete) dentures. Used when all teeth in the upper and/or lower arch are missing. A full denture rests directly on the gums, held in place by suction and denture adhesive, and is custom-shaped to support your facial structure and bite.

Partial dentures. Used when some natural teeth remain. A partial denture fills the gaps with a metal or flexible framework that clips onto your remaining teeth, keeping them from shifting while restoring your bite.

Implant-supported (overdenture) dentures. A denture that snaps onto two or more dental implants placed in the jawbone, providing much greater stability than a traditional denture. This option significantly reduces slipping and the need for adhesive, and helps preserve jawbone density.

Immediate dentures. Placed on the same day teeth are extracted, so you’re never without teeth while your gums heal. A more permanent, better-fitting denture is typically made several months later once the gums and bone have fully settled.

Dentures Mississauga Cost: What to Expect in 2026

Dentures Mississauga pricing depends on the type and how many teeth are being replaced. As a general 2026 guide:

  • Full denture (per arch): roughly $1,800 – $3,500
  • Partial denture: roughly $1,200 – $2,500, depending on the framework material and number of teeth
  • Immediate denture: roughly $2,000 – $3,800 per arch, plus the cost of any extractions
  • Implant-supported overdenture: roughly $6,000 – $18,000 per arch, depending on the number of implants used

Higher-end materials, precision attachments, and same-day extractions all affect the final price. We’ll give you a clear, itemized estimate after your consultation, including how much the CDCP or your insurance is likely to cover.

Are dentures covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

Yes — for dentures Mississauga patients need, the Canadian Dental Care Plan covers a range of denture-related services for eligible patients, including full and partial dentures, denture relines, and repairs, subject to annual coverage limits and copayment amounts based on household income. This makes the CDCP especially valuable for seniors and lower-income families who need dentures but don’t have private insurance. Coverage percentages vary depending on your adjusted family net income, and we’ll help you understand exactly what’s covered before treatment starts. See our full CDCP coverage guide for eligibility details, or call 905-607-1112 and our team will check your coverage for you.

Dentures vs dental implants vs a bridge: which is right for you?

  • Choose traditional dentures if you’re missing most or all teeth in an arch and want the most budget-friendly, non-surgical option.
  • Choose an implant-supported denture if stability and chewing power matter most to you and you’re a good candidate for dental implants — this option significantly reduces slipping compared to a traditional denture.
  • Choose a dental bridge if only a few teeth are missing and the surrounding natural teeth are healthy enough to support a fixed (non-removable) restoration.

Many patients start with a traditional denture and transition to an implant-supported denture later once they’ve had time to save or once CDCP or insurance coverage renews for a new benefit year. We’ll map out a realistic plan based on your budget, timeline, and oral health.

The denture process: what to expect

  • Consultation & exam. We assess your remaining teeth, gum health, and jawbone, and discuss which type of denture suits your needs and budget, including CDCP or insurance coverage.
  • Extractions (if needed). Any remaining unhealthy teeth are removed. If you’re getting an immediate denture, it’s placed the same day.
  • Impressions & measurements. We take detailed impressions and bite measurements of your gums and jaw to ensure your denture fits precisely and your bite feels natural.
  • Try-in appointment. Before the final denture is made, you’ll try in a wax model so we can confirm the fit, tooth shade, and shape look right, and make adjustments if needed.
  • Final fitting. Your finished denture is fitted, checked for comfort and bite alignment, and any final adjustments are made.
  • Follow-up adjustments. Gums change shape slightly as they heal, especially after extractions, so a follow-up visit or two to fine-tune the fit is normal and expected.

Adjusting to new dentures

It’s completely normal for new dentures to feel a little unusual for the first few weeks — increased saliva, minor speech changes, and some soreness while your gums adapt are common. Start with softer foods and gradually reintroduce firmer foods as your confidence and comfort improve. Practicing reading out loud can help you adjust to speaking naturally again. If a sore spot persists beyond a few days, let us know — small adjustments to the denture can resolve most discomfort quickly.

Caring for your dentures Mississauga restoration

  • Remove and rinse your dentures after eating to clear away food particles
  • Brush your dentures daily with a soft brush and a denture-specific cleaner — regular toothpaste can be too abrasive
  • Soak your dentures overnight in water or a denture-soaking solution to keep them from drying out and losing their shape
  • Still brush your gums, tongue, and any remaining natural teeth daily
  • Book regular checkups so we can monitor fit, since your gums and jawbone shape can change gradually over time
  • Never adjust or repair a cracked denture yourself — bring it to us so it’s fixed correctly and doesn’t damage your gums

How long do dentures last?

Most traditional dentures last 5–8 years before they need to be relined or replaced, as your gums and jawbone gradually change shape over time even after you’ve finished healing. Implant-supported dentures tend to last longer since the implants help maintain jawbone structure. Regular checkups let us catch fit changes early with a simple reline, rather than waiting until the denture becomes uncomfortable or unstable.

Signs it might be time to consider dentures Mississauga treatment

  • Several teeth are missing, loose, or severely decayed and can’t realistically be saved
  • You’re avoiding certain foods because chewing has become difficult or uncomfortable
  • Remaining teeth are shifting into gaps left by missing teeth, affecting your bite
  • You’ve noticed changes in your facial appearance, such as sunken cheeks, related to missing teeth
  • Gum disease has progressed to the point where several teeth have become loose
  • An existing denture no longer fits well, clicks, slips, or causes sore spots

If any of these apply to you, a consultation is the best next step — we’ll examine your mouth and be honest about whether dentures, a bridge, or implants make the most sense for your situation.

A closer look at CDCP coverage for dentures

The Canadian Dental Care Plan uses a household adjusted net income test to determine your coverage level: families with an adjusted net income under $70,000 generally receive close to full coverage for eligible services with no copayment, those between $70,000 and $79,999 typically have a 40% copayment, and those between $80,000 and $89,999 typically have a 60% copayment. Coverage applies to a defined list of services and annual limits, including full and partial dentures, denture adjustments, relines, and repairs — but not every premium option (like precision attachments for an implant-supported denture) is necessarily included at 100%.

Because rules and covered codes can change, we always recommend confirming your specific coverage with us before treatment starts, so you know your exact out-of-pocket cost upfront, with no surprises at your appointment.

Denture adhesives: what you need to know

A well-fitted denture shouldn’t require a thick layer of adhesive to stay in place — if you find yourself relying heavily on adhesive just to get through the day, it’s often a sign that your denture needs a reline or adjustment rather than a normal part of wearing dentures. That said, a thin layer of adhesive can add extra confidence and stability, especially for lower dentures, which are naturally less stable than upper dentures due to less surface area and the movement of the tongue and cheek muscles.

Choose a dental-specific adhesive rather than a generic product, apply it in the small amount recommended on the packaging, and clean it off thoroughly each night when you remove and soak your denture. If you notice you need more adhesive than usual, or it isn’t holding like it used to, book a checkup — this is one of the clearest signals that your gum shape has changed and a reline is due.

Eating well with new dentures

Adjusting your diet in the first few weeks makes a real difference in how comfortable the transition feels. Start with softer foods like scrambled eggs, soups, mashed potatoes, and cooked vegetables, and cut food into smaller pieces to make chewing easier while you adapt. Chew slowly and try to use both sides of your mouth evenly, rather than favouring one side, which helps keep the denture balanced and stable.

As your confidence builds over the following weeks, gradually reintroduce firmer foods, saving the toughest items — like raw carrots, tough meat, or crusty bread — for last. Most patients find that within a month or two, eating with dentures feels close to second nature again, though very hard or sticky foods like caramel or hard nuts are usually best avoided long-term regardless of how experienced you become.

Common myths about dentures

Myth: Dentures always look fake. Modern dentures are custom-shaded and shaped to suit your face, and many are genuinely difficult to distinguish from natural teeth once properly fitted.

Myth: Once you get dentures, you don’t need dental checkups anymore. Regular checkups are still important — we check your gum and oral tissue health, monitor how your jawbone and gums are changing, and make sure your denture still fits properly.

Myth: Dentures are only for elderly patients. While many denture patients are seniors, we also see younger patients who’ve lost teeth due to injury, advanced decay, or genetic conditions affecting tooth development.

Myth: All dentures are basically the same. Fit quality varies enormously based on the impressions taken, the materials used, and how closely your dentist follows up during the adjustment period — a well-made, well-fitted denture is a completely different experience from a rushed one.

Serving Mississauga, Erin Mills, Churchill Meadows, Streetsville & Meadowvale

Eglinton Oak Dental provides full, partial, and implant-supported dentures Mississauga patients trust to patients across Mississauga, including Erin Mills, Central Erin Mills, Churchill Meadows, Streetsville, and Meadowvale. We see many senior patients through the CDCP program and are happy to help you navigate coverage, appointment scheduling, and transportation-friendly appointment times.

How to choose the right denture provider

Not all denture experiences are the same, and the provider you choose has a real impact on comfort and confidence. Look for a dental team that takes the time to do a proper try-in appointment rather than rushing straight from impressions to a finished denture — the try-in step is where fit, bite, and appearance issues get caught before they’re permanent. Ask how many follow-up adjustment visits are typically included, since some minor sore-spot adjustments in the first few weeks are completely normal and shouldn’t come with extra fees.

It also helps to choose a clinic experienced with CDCP billing if you’re relying on that coverage, since navigating the eligibility and claims process smoothly makes a real difference in how stress-free your treatment feels. Finally, ask whether the clinic offers implant-supported options too, even if you’re not ready for that step now — having a provider who can offer the full range of options means your treatment plan can evolve with you over time rather than requiring you to switch clinics later.

Denture repairs and relines: what to know

Dentures are durable, but accidents happen — a denture that’s dropped on a hard bathroom floor can crack, and normal wear over the years can loosen the fit even without any single incident. If your denture cracks or breaks, avoid the temptation to use household glue to fix it yourself, since these adhesives aren’t safe for use in the mouth and can make a proper professional repair more difficult afterward. Bring it to us as soon as possible, ideally along with any broken pieces, and in many cases we can repair rather than fully replace it.

A reline — where the base of the denture is refitted to match your current gum shape without replacing the teeth themselves — is a routine, more affordable procedure compared to a full replacement, and is often covered under CDCP and private insurance plans at a similar rate to the original denture. We recommend having your denture fit checked at least once a year, even if it feels fine, since gradual changes are often easier to notice on an exam than day-to-day.

Rated 4.8★ by more than 320 patients, we also help eligible patients understand and use their CDCP coverage so cost isn’t a barrier to getting the care you need. Frequently asked questions about dentures in Mississauga

How much do dentures Mississauga clinics charge?

Dentures Mississauga clinics typically charge $1,800 to $3,500 per arch for a full denture, a partial denture costs $1,200 to $2,500, and an implant-supported overdenture ranges from about $6,000 to $18,000 per arch.

Does the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) cover dentures?

Yes, the CDCP covers full and partial dentures, relines, and repairs for eligible patients, subject to annual limits and copayment amounts based on household income. We can help verify your coverage before treatment.

How long do dentures last?

Most traditional dentures last 5 to 8 years before needing a reline or replacement, as your gums and jawbone shape change gradually over time.

Are implant-supported dentures better than traditional dentures?

Implant-supported dentures offer significantly more stability and chewing power than traditional dentures and help preserve jawbone density, though they involve a higher upfront cost and a minor surgical procedure.

How long does it take to get used to new dentures?

Most patients adjust within a few weeks, though some soreness, increased saliva, and minor speech changes are normal at first while your gums and muscles adapt.

Can I get dentures the same day my teeth are removed?

Yes, this is called an immediate denture. It’s placed the same day as your extractions, and a better-fitting permanent denture is typically made several months later once healing is complete.

How do I clean my dentures properly?

Rinse them after eating, brush daily with a soft brush and denture-specific cleaner rather than regular toothpaste, and soak them overnight in water or a denture-soaking solution.

Will my dentures need to be replaced or relined over time?

Yes, since your gums and jawbone naturally change shape over the years, most dentures need a reline every few years and eventual replacement, which we monitor at your regular checkups.

We had a great experience at Eglinton Oak Dental when we brought our 11-year-old daughter in for a cavity.

The reception staff were very welcoming, friendly, and efficient. The paperwork was completed quickly, which made the check-in process smooth and stress-free.

What impressed us the most was the paediatric dentist. She took the time to speak with our daughter, make her comfortable, and build her confidence before starting the treatment. Her patience and gentle approach made a big difference, especially since dental visits can be stressful for children.

The entire experience was excellent. The dentist also clearly explained the future course of action and what we should expect going forward.

We really appreciated the professional and caring service and would highly recommend Eglinton Oak Dental to families looking for a child-friendly dental practice.

I visited the clinic today. Initially, I was hesitant and rescheduled my appointment twice as the dental clinic I visited 2 years ago gave me serious sensitivity pain after cleanup which stayed for 2 weeks. However, I was surprised with my before and after pictures, and no sensitivity at all. Thanks Dr Maya for your service. And the best part was nobody was trying to sell me services. I was explained that my cavities arent very severe and we can check after 6 months if I face any issues.
