To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all 4 of these requirements:
You don’t have access to dental insurance
You and your spouse/common-law partner (if applicable) must have filed your tax returns in Canada so that your family income can be assessed for the previous year
Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000
You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes
You need to meet all the eligibility criteria to qualify for the CDCP.
Preventive Services: Routine check-ups, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants to prevent cavities and gum disease.
Diagnostic Services: Comprehensive exams and X-rays to detect potential dental issues early.
Restorative Services: Treatments like fillings and crowns to repair damaged teeth.
Endodontic Services: Root canal procedures to address tooth infections.
Prosthodontic Services: Complete and partial dentures to replace missing teeth.
Periodontal Services: Deep scaling and treatments to maintain gum health.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan includes a wide range of essential dental services such as routine checkups, teeth cleanings, X-rays, fillings, root canal treatments, and tooth extractions and much more.
1. Prepare Your Documents
Yes. Complete and partial dentures are included in CDCP coverage for eligible members, usually with limits on how often they can be replaced. We explain any co-payment before your dentures are made.
Yes. Root canal treatment is included in the covered services for eligible members, although some treatments may need pre-approval. We confirm what applies before treatment starts.
Tooth extractions and many oral surgery procedures are covered for eligible members. Some procedures need pre-approval from the plan, and we check this for you.
Dental implants are generally not covered, and cosmetic treatments such as whitening and veneers are not covered. We explain all costs the plan will not pay before any treatment.
It depends on your family income. If your adjusted family net income is under $70,000 there is no co-payment. Between $70,000 and $89,999 you pay a portion. A small extra charge may apply in some cases, and we always explain it before treatment.
Generally, Canadian residents who do not have access to private dental insurance, have filed their most recent tax return and have an adjusted family net income under $90,000. Check the current rules on Canada.ca.
Yes. We bill the Canadian Dental Care Plan directly, so you only pay any co-payment or charges the plan does not cover.
