What to Do Before You Reach Our Office

What you do in the first hour can decide whether a tooth is saved. Here is what we tell patients who call us on their way in.

  • Knocked-out adult tooth: pick it up by the crown (the white part), not the root. Rinse it briefly, then gently push it back into the socket or keep it in a cup of milk. Try to reach a dentist within 60 minutes. Do not put a baby tooth back in.
  • Broken or chipped tooth: rinse with warm water, save any pieces, and hold a cold compress on your cheek to limit swelling.
  • Severe toothache: rinse with warm water and floss gently in case food is trapped. An over-the-counter pain reliever taken as the label directs can help. Never place aspirin on the gum, because it burns the tissue.
  • Swelling or a gum abscess: use a cold compress on the outside of the face and call us the same day. An infection will not clear on its own.
  • Lost filling or crown: keep the crown, avoid chewing on that side, and cover the area with temporary dental cement from a pharmacy until your visit.
  • Bleeding after an extraction: bite firmly on folded gauze for 30 minutes. If it keeps bleeding, call us.

Go to a hospital emergency department or call 911 if facial swelling is spreading towards your eye or neck, if you have a high fever, if you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or after a jaw injury. The closest hospital to our office is Credit Valley Hospital on Eglinton Avenue West.

Emergency Dental Costs, Insurance and After-Hours Care

Most emergency visits start with an exam and an X-ray so we can find the cause of the pain. We explain what we see and give you a cost estimate before any treatment starts. As a general 2026 guide for Mississauga:

  • Emergency exam and X-ray: roughly $80 – $180
  • Pain relief or a temporary filling: roughly $100 – $300
  • Root canal treatment (if the nerve is affected): roughly $700 – $1,800, depending on the tooth
  • Simple tooth extraction: roughly $150 – $350 (surgical cases cost more)
  • Re-cementing a crown: roughly $75 – $200

We accept most dental insurance plans and the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). You do not need to be a registered patient to be seen.

Hours and after-hours help: we see emergency patients Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm, and we are closed on Sunday. We are not a 24-hour clinic. Call 905-607-1112 as early in the day as you can so we can hold a same-day slot for you. If something happens on a Sunday or overnight, you can call Health811 (dial 811) for free advice from a registered nurse, or go to a hospital emergency department for the warning signs listed above. Then call us when we open.

Our office is at 3960 Eglinton Avenue West, Unit 12, and we see emergency patients from Erin Mills, Churchill Meadows, Streetsville, Meadowvale and across Mississauga.

Great receptionists and I have to give it up to Dr. Anar! She is the gem of this clinic, I dread going for any dental procedures but she made everything so pleasant that I was almost falling asleep (mind you I had a ton of work to get done), she's very attentive, professional, knowledgeable and a true person of her profession. This dental office is actually not close for me but it is worth it! Thank you!!
